Sega is a pioneering force in the gaming industry, known for its groundbreaking contributions to both arcade and home console gaming. Founded in 1960, Sega gained early success with arcade hits like Space Harrier and Out Run.

The company truly made its mark with the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) in 1988, which introduced the world to iconic characters like Sonic the Hedgehog. The Genesis played a central role in the "console wars" of the early 1990s, where Sega’s edgy marketing and innovative games helped it compete fiercely against Nintendo.

Despite its successes, Sega faced challenges with its later consoles, particularly the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast. While these systems were technically advanced, they struggled commercially, leading Sega to exit the hardware market in 2001.
