This game is the successor to other games of this genre dating back to Daley Thompson's Decathlon which appeared on the ZX Spectrum. In between, theres been many great games on all consoles that used the current technology to push families into button bashing (Athlete Kings), or simply using Move, Kinect or the Wii controllers to out race the family. Kids love this game and Mario and Sonic keep it light-hearted.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is a sports video game released in 2009 for the Nintendo Wii developed by Sega. It is the second instalment in the Mario & Sonic series, bringing together characters from Nintendo’s Super Mario franchise and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog series to compete in various winter sports events themed around the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

The game features a wide variety of Olympic-themed events, such as skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, ice hockey, and bobsleigh. It also includes special "Dream Events," which are imaginative versions of the Olympic sports with a twist, incorporating elements from the Mario and Sonic universes, like power-ups and fantastical settings. Players can choose from a roster of popular characters from both franchises, including Mario, Luigi, Sonic, Tails, and more, each with their own strengths and abilities that affect their performance in different events.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games was praised for its multiplayer modes, which allowed friends and family to compete together in various events, making it a great party game.

Following the phenomenal worldwide popularity of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, which has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, the Wii game will offer an even richer multiplayer experience offering co-op and competitive gameplay. Additionally, one of the new features to be found in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is the inclusion of the Wii Balance Board which can be used in some events, allowing for a more interactive and realistic gaming experience.
